This unit i didn't study at college but i find this unit very insightful, as i studied ICT it sort of tied in with that, however for those studying this unit i have made some notes which i think would be useful to you

Different types of IT

​

There are many different types of IT used in businesses. Rapid developments means there are new technology being introduced all of the time, the most popular types of IT is:

  • Information exchange

  • Word processing

  • Spreadsheets

  • Databases

  • Presentation software and 

  • Mobile information technology

 

 

What is Information exchange?

​

There are two important aspects to information exchange using IT. 

These are:

  • Sending and receiving emails and

  • Using the internet to find information 

​

Sending and receiving emails 

​

Many organization now use emails to send and receive information.Emails are useful as the sender can attach documents to the emails they send. These can be word documents,spreadsheets,audio files or images, however when sending emails you need to bear in mind the level of competence of the recipient as there is little point in sending an email if the recipient cant understand it

Using the internet to find information 

​

An important starting point when using the internet to find information is to use a search engine.These look for websites based on the criteria a person enters in the search box. The best known search engine is Google, other search engines include Yahoo!, Search and Bing.

 

What is Life without IT?

 

There are several significant consequences when IT is not used for administrative tasks. The following business qualities could be impaired as result of no IT in the workplace these include

  •  Speed

  • Flexibility

  • Quality

  • New Possibility

  • Efficiency
